Program description: Outcome Alternatives® provides The Alcohol Class as a 4hour alcohol awareness class. The Alcohol Class curriculum is based on the work of Allison Butterfield, CADC. Our alcohol awareness class teaches the "levels of use" and lets the student conduct a brief level of use screening. The class teaches about the hazards of consuming alcohol any one time and the hazards of long term use and abuse. Included is a screening to help give the student a feel of how "at risk' they might presently be of developing an alcohol abuse problem. The class promotes personal responsibility and reveals the impact alcohol use has on those around us. No alcohol awareness class would be complete if it did not include refusal strategy and techniques. The Alcohol Class uses a cognitive restructuring approach which basically follows the tenant of Norman Vincent Peale (1898 - 1993): "Change your thoughts and you will change your world." Our MIP alcohol awareness class asks the students to explore their attitudes, values and beliefs. The MIP Alcohol Class ends asking the client to figure out what they believe, who they are and to identify their value system.
There is absolutely no intent to judge our clients or to put them down in anyway. We also will not try to tell you what to do. We realize, and accept, that your choices are yours and any attempt to "control" you or tell you what to do is inappropriage.
The expectations of the on-line class include the following:
Paying for the class. You can pay on-line or mail a check.
Reading through each of the chapters in your workbook.
Completing each of the exams in your Outcome Alternatives® workbook.
Writing to your Outcome Alternatives® instructor about any questions you may have.
Demonstrating your understanding of what you have read by completing the Final Exam.
How long will it take?
The Workbook typically arrives in about 4 days. This is a four hour class which takes, on average, 4 hours and 8 minutes for our clients to complete. If you read slower it will take longer and if you read faster it goes a bit faster.
Speeding it Up
One way to speed up the process is to ask to do your reading in the workbook but to take your exams online. If you get registered online we can activte an "exams only" path for you. This approach not only gets you through the class quicker but also gives you instant access to your Completion Certificate. Let us know if you create an account for this purpose.
Once completed your Certificate can be emailed to you, or we will mail you an embossed Completion Certificate, (No added cost.). If you took the exams online your certificate will be available upon completion of the Final Exam.
